Empowering the accounting profession, one professional at a time
The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) is a professional organization dedicated to serving the needs of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) in the state of New York. With over 21,000 members, the NYSSCPA is one of the largest professional accounting organizations in the country. Our mission is to provide our members with the training, resources, and support needed to excel in their careers and serve their clients and communities to the highest standards.
Professional Development Opportunities
At the NYSSCPA, we are committed to providing our members with a wide range of professional development opportunities. This includes our comprehensive Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program, which offers a variety of courses and seminars on topics ranging from accounting and auditing to tax and financial planning. Our CPE program is designed to help CPAs stay up-to-date on the latest developments in the profession and to provide them with the knowledge and skills needed to serve their clients and communities effectively.
Publications
The NYSSCPA is also proud to publish several respected publications, including The CPA Journal and TaxStringer. The CPA Journal is a monthly publication that provides our members with news, analysis, and commentary on the latest developments in the accounting profession. TaxStringer is a bimonthly publication that focuses on taxation and estate planning. Both publications are written by experts in the field and are designed to provide our members with the knowledge and insights needed to excel in their careers.
Special Events and Programs
In addition to our CPE program and publications, the NYSSCPA offers a wide range of special events and programs throughout the year. These events bring together CPAs and other accounting professionals from across the state to discuss topics of common interest and to share experiences and expertise. Our events include conferences, seminars, and workshops on topics such as accounting and auditing, tax and financial planning, and leadership and career development.
Technical Helpline
We understand that our members may have questions or concerns about specific accounting and tax issues. That's why we offer a technical helpline, where our staff of experienced CPAs and tax professionals are available to answer questions and provide guidance on a wide range of topics.
Career Development
At the NYSSCPA, we believe that career development is an important part of our members' overall professional development. That's why we offer a variety of resources and services to help CPAs advance their careers and achieve their goals. These include career counseling, job listings, and networking opportunities.
Small Firms Resource Center
We also recognize the importance of small firms in the accounting profession. That's why we have established a Small Firms Resource Center, which provides small firms with the resources and support they need to succeed. This includes training and education programs, networking opportunities, and access to expert advice and guidance.
Mentorship Program
Our Mentorship Program is designed to provide new CPAs with the guidance and support they need to build successful careers. The program matches experienced CPAs with new CPAs who are looking for guidance and mentorship. This program is designed to help new CPAs build their skills and confidence, and to provide them with the support and guidance they need to succeed in their careers.
Resource Hub
At the NYSSCPA, we believe that the resources and support we provide to our members are an important part of their overall professional development. That's why we have established a Resource Hub, which provides our members with access to a wide range of resources and tools. This includes articles, videos, and podcasts on topics such as accounting and auditing, tax and financial planning, and leadership and career development.

Brian Wilson expressed disappointment with the organization, stating that he spent too much time and money on membership and committee work, but received no tangible benefits.
